We were asked to produce a project about our own ideas about what ''drawing is..''. I was thinking about how drawing can enable someone to translate something so vast and epic as a mountain range into a simple drawing on a page. I was also thinking about how Japanese woodblock print artists like Hokusai and Hiroshige represent waves, mountains and forests simplistically by reducing detail with thick outlines and block colours, making something chaotic into something calm.

Greetings

I'm Sam Ashton, I'm currently living and studying Illustration in Brighton.
